Corrib Beo will hold a programme of events during Heritage Week to celebrate the Corrib and its role in Galway life through the ages.
The group, which works to promote, protect and restore Lough Corrib and its catchment, has planned a week of fascinating talks, guided tours, and engaging activities celebrating Galway’s rich heritage.
These include Mill Heritage of Galway: A guided walk with Phil James on August 19, and an illustrated talk by historian William Henry on the history of Forthill on August 20.
Brian Nolan, one of Galway’s most experienced guides, will give a talk on Stone Portals: The Key to Galway’s Past at Galway City Museum on August 20.
On August 21, Rev Anthony Previte and Professor Máirín Ní Dhonnchadha will give a joint lecture on Galway’s medieval church heritage in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church.
History of the Galway Fishery: a walk and talk by Seamas Hartigan will take place on August 23.
Finally, the popular Hands Across the Corrib 2024 will take place on Sunday afternoon, August 25, featuring music, talks, crafts, and boat trips between Knockferry and Kilbeg piers. Beidh ceol, ceardanna is taispeántais againn, bígí ann.

The Corrib Beo team is currently working with local communities around the Corrib to present a new exhibition, Corrib Shores - This is our Place, at the Galway City Museum later this autumn. This exhibition follows the successful Corrib Shores - These are our People exhibition from last year.
The group also recently announced the appointment of Jennifer Cunningham from Galway as project officer, a position funded by the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO ) Catchment Support Fund.
