New book of sketches captures Galway in ink and watercolours

A newly published book of sketches of Galway captures the vibrant energy and atmosphere of the City of the Tribes.

Galway in Sketches and Stories by Róisín Curé is an update of the author and illustrator’s 2019 book An Urban Sketcher’s Galway, which is now out of print.

Curé has long been capturing everyday life in Galway in ink and watercolour sketches, creating a beautiful record of Galway’s pubs, the musicians and buskers, the exquisite medieval stonework, the marine environment, the vibrant restaurant culture, and Galway’s colourful characters. The sketches are accompanied by details of her life in Galway and snippets of the conversations that naturally unfold when she is out on the streets with pens and paints in this thriving cultural melting-pot.

These vignettes give a local insight to life on Ireland’s west coast, and are a quirky first-hand account of Galway’s urban landscape.

Galway in Sketches and Stories is available now from all good bookshops and www.redstripepress.com for €19.99.

Lifelong artist Róisín Curé is the author of three books on urban sketching. She currently teaches the mindful and colourful practice of urban sketching to students through workshops around the world and online. She is based in Co Galway.
