Bringing together the 'unusual combination of organ and harmonium', the final concert in Galway Cathedral's annual summer series is set to take place in the Cathedral this evening (Thursday ) at 8pm.
Robbie Carroll (Norwich Cathedral, UK ) will join Ray O’Donnell (Galway Cathedral ) in for this evening's concert, which will bring together the 'unusual combination of organ and harmonium'.
Robbie Carroll, a native of Barna, served as organ scholar in Galway Cathedral between 2006 and 2008; since then he has held positions in Dublin’s Pro-Cathedral and St Fin Barre’s Cathedral in Cork, and is now 'assistant organist' in Norwich Cathedral.
Ahead of this evening's performance, Ray O’Donnell, director of music in Galway Cathedral and artistic director of the concert series, said, “I’m delighted to be collaborating with Robbie. He is a marvellous player and a superb musician and it’s great to have him back here where he started. This particular ensemble – harmonium and organ – is a new one to both of us, so it promises to be a lot of fun."
The concert series has been running in the Cathedral for the last six weeks, and has seen wonderful performances presented to appreciative audiences.
As this year’s series draws to a close, the 2025 summer series is already in planning, and will be announced early in the new year.
