Following in the footsteps of folk legends such as The Dubliners and The Clancy Brothers, The Kilkennys are coming to Monroe’s Live on Friday, August 23rd for a late night foot-stomping set.
This traditional Irish folk and ballad group has successfully reintroduced the genre to a young audience while maintaining strong connections to more seasoned fans. Having shared the stage with world renowned Irish artists like the late Shane MacGowan, Sharon Shannon and Finbar Furey, they’ve taken their music to an international audience across Europe and the USA.
Their hectic touring schedule saw them perform on the main stage at Milwaukee Irish Fest, the largest Irish Festival in the world, where they were described as upholding the tradition and passion of folk with a fantastic live show.
After releasing their live album and DVD Meet The Kilkennys, radio and TV appearances soon followed, along with their acclaimed studio albums The Colour of Freedom and Blowin’ In The Wind.
Established between schoolmates in 1998, they are named after their beloved home of Kilkenny city. Now based in the south east, the group has evolved through the years, anchored by founding members Davey Cashin on vocals, mandolin, banjo, guitar and whistles, Tommy Mackey on bass, acoustic guitar and vocals, and Mick Martin on bodhrán, uilleann pipes, low whistles, guitar and vocals.
Featuring a mix of original songs and well-known melodies, the band will showcase their compelling musicianship and pristine vocal harmonies. Following a series of sell-out headline shows and fresh from a tour of the Netherlands, the band's popularity continues to grow with every energy filled night of entertainment.
