Jeremy Corbyn MP will be visiting Galway this weekend at the invitation of Sinn Féin TD for Galway West Mairéad Farrell. The former leader of the British Labour Party and his delegation, which includes former General Secretary of Unite the Union, Len McCluskey, will be holding meetings with Sinn Féin members in Galway.
On the Saturday, August 3, at 2pm, Mr Corbyn will address the annual Hiroshima-Nagasaki Peace Event, which is being held at the Spanish Arch and is organised by the Galway Alliance Against War under the heading: Neutrality & Global Peace Not NATO! Halt U.S. Arming Israel via Shannon!
Later on Saturday at 6pm, Jeremy Corbyn, the newly elected Independent MP for Islington North, a seat he has held for over 40 years, will be joined by Len McCluskey in Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop to launch their joint poetry anthology “Poetry for the Many”.
Deputy Mairéad Farrell, who will MC the event, said Jeremy Corbyn MP and former trade union leader Len McCluskey are two legendary figures from the British Labour movement.
“They have joined forces in an unexpected venture: a collection of poetry titled “Poetry for the Many.” The title reflects their belief that poetry should be accessible to all, not just the elite. The authors selected poems that have been meaningful in their lives, providing short introductions to explain their significance.
“The diverse selection, featuring poems from various parts of the world and different eras, reflects the authors’ internationalism, profound humanity, and connections to Ireland,” she said.
The launch of the anthology will be complemented with readings, both in Irish and English.
On Sunday Jeremy Corbyn and his delegation will visit community projects around the city with Mairéad Farrell TD and Sinn Féin Cllr Aisling Burke.
