Peugeot has just launched the new 3008 model to the Irish market, featuring an aerodynamic fastback SUV design and two new powertrains. One is a mild hybrid and the other is a full electric, with a promised range of up to 527km (WLTP ). The new 3008 also features Peugeot’s latest panoramic i-Cockpit.
Viewing the big picture, Peugeot is going all-in; it is on target to offer EV options in all of its line-up by the end of next year (2025 ), and offer just full EV sales by 2030.
The new 3008 will replace the top-selling 3008, a car that since 2017 in Ireland, has won over 13,000 customers. The previous version of 3008 also won the prestigious Irish Car of the Year Award in 2018. The vehicle was also crowned as International Car of the Year in 2017.
The Peugeot E-3008 is the first model to use Stellantis’ brand-new STLA Medium electric powertrain, which promises a recharge time for 20-80 per cent in 30 minutes from a 160kW charger. The STLA Medium comprises a permanent magnet synchronous motor operating in tandem with an electric gearbox to deliver more power, efficiency and torque, powered by a 400V lithium-ion battery.
Peugeot boasts of driving pleasure, performance, efficiency, and connected services and functions (trip planner, smart charging, and online updates ) in the new E-3008. My hour-long drive in the 3008 Hybrid in the west Dublin suburbs last week would have me largely in agreement with that.
For AC charging an 11kW three-phase charger is fitted on board. For DC rapid recharging, CCS charger on the new E-3008 is capable of charging speeds up to 160kW, according to Peugeot. This would enable the E-3008's standard range battery to be recharged from 20 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes, and less than 30 minutes for the Long-Range version.
The new E-3008 also features a V2L (Vehicle to Load ) function, giving customers the option of powering an electrical device via the car’s high-voltage battery. The system can supply up to 3kW and 16A. The V1G or Smart Charging function can also adjust the time and power at which the battery of the new E-3008 is charged to optimise charging costs.
The fastback SUV styling of the new 3008 makes it immediately recognisable. The E-3008 remains one of the most compact cars in the fully-electric SUV category (length: 4.54m, width: 1.89m, height: 1.64m ), while still providing 520 litres of boot space - identical to that of the previous 3008.
With a fully redesigned front end, the ultra-compact LED headlamps and grille are complemented by a sweeping profile which highlights the unique personality of the 3008. The new 3008 is available in a range of six colours. Thanks to innovative dichromatic pigments, the 'Obsession Blue' colour (pictured ) changes from blue to green depending on the light and the shape of the bodywork.
Inside, the new Peugeot panoramic i-Cockpit features a floating, curved 21-inch HD panoramic screen that combines the head-up display with the central touchscreen. Positioned for optimum ergonomics, the panoramic screen is slightly curved towards the driver while remaining fully accessible to the passenger.
In the centre of the dashboard, the touch-screen is used to manage the heating/air conditioning, navigation and media/connectivity systems.
On the fully electric E-3008, the new Peugeot panoramic i-Cockpit introduces two paddles behind the steering wheel which allow the driver to choose from three levels of regenerative braking. The medium and high levels also automatically switch on the rear brake lights.
The Peugeot 3008 is available with two trim levels, 'Allure' and 'GT', in the following powertrains: Three all-electric powertrains (heat pump is standard on Irish spec E-3008 and across the passenger car line up ): The 210bhp/157kW standard range version (available now ): is priced at €43,965 for Allure and €49,795 for GT (after state subsidies ).
The 230bhp/170kW Long Range version (up to 680km WLTP ) is coming in Q1 2025, as is the 320bhp/240kW Dual Motor providing all-wheel drive.
The Mild hybrid version of the new 3008 (136bhp/100kW 1.2 PureTech 1 e-DCS6 ) is available now priced at €43,995 for Allure and €47,995 for GT.
