Galway teams excelled at the National League finals last weekend in Tullamore.
Galway County Men’s team took gold in Division One, while Galway Ladies won Silver, both in the county section. Galway City Harriers Men’s team went close to a medal, placing a strong fourth in Division One of the clubs’ section.
Galway Men had wins via Leon Ewere over 200m; gold in the 4x100m relay via Christian Ogbemudia, Nick Ukaga, Leon Ewere and Lemar Lucciano,; Shot Putt victory for Liam Shaw; a Long Jump win for Jack Hession and Triple Jump victory for Darragh Fahy.
Other team members who scored crucial points included captain Justin Lane, Liam Shaw, Sean Kelleher, Ben Edeh, Darragh Kelly, Abaas Adam Edris, Jack Miskella, Oisin Phelan, Kyle Moorhead, Oisin Davis, Oisin Phelan, Andrew Power, Sean Doggett, Hamsley Okomah, Anthony Boyle, Conan Dempsey, Ben Moran, and Seafary Fadul.
Galway Ladies won silver team medals and came away with four victories. This included wins from international hurdler, Orlaith Mannion over 100m Hurdles, both relay squads – the 4x100m relay team of Nicole Walsh, Nicole Quirke, Laura Ann Costello and Sinead Treacy and the 4x400m relay of Sinead Treacy, Nicole Walsh, Danielle Moynihan and Rachel Finnegan, and a great 400m victory via Nicole Walsh.
Numerous points and second placers came via 100m athletes Laura Ann Costello, Sinead Treacy over 200m, Alix Joyce in both 800m and 400 hurdles, in the Jumps via Caoimhe Farrell and Angela Cielecka, and Laura Cunnigham and Holly Shaughnessy. The squad was ably assisted by further scores from Juno Hayes, Aine O’Farrell, Enya Mitchell, Caoimhe Kelleher, Aoife Sheedy, Aoibhin Farrell, Aoibhinn Redington, Helena O’Keeffe, Eva Kelleher and Anna Donoghue.
Galway City Harriers Senior Men's League team competed in Tullamore in the Division 1 Final and came in fourth overall, just missing the podium. they secured two great wins and seven second place finishes. Wins outright came via Richard Kamson over 110m Hurdles, and Shane Meagher over 400m.
National Juvenile Outdoor Track and Field Championships
The final weekend of the National Juvenile Outdoor Track and Field Championships was held in Tullamore last weekend, with another batch of medals secured by Galway clubs.
Among the highlights were another National Long Jump title for GCH star Angela Cielecka. She continued her extraordinary unbeaten record for GCH at National Juvenile Championships when she added the Under 17 Long Jump Title. Her best jump of 5.61m was her second furthest ever and into a negative headwind.
Tuam athlete Rachel Treacy finished her season off in outstanding fashion when she added the All-Ireland U15 250m Hurdles title to the 80m Hurdles title she won at the same venue two weeks ago.
Craughwell AC secured yet another fantastic National title via High Jumper Conor Penney, with a 1.95m leap to take the U17 Boys High Jump title. A great return to action after a busy week in Slovakia with the Irish team.
West Coast AC sprinter Leon Ewere excelled, as he claimed gold and the U18 National 200M Sprint Title with a storming performance.
The talented Clare River Harriers distance runner Patrick Lee knocked nine seconds off his best to claim a well-deserved bronze medal in the u14 1500m, while South Galway's Amy Rose Kelly capped a great day with bronze in the U18 girls 400m hurdles.

Galway City Harriers star Cillin Greene ran a super 45.61 seconds in Lausanne, Switzerland last weekend, clocking a massive personal best and rising to 5th on the Irish all-time list and the fastest time this year in the country.
