'Sleeping Beauty' by Richard Ward

'Sleeping Beauty' by Richard Ward

International wildlife artist Richard Ward will showcase a collection of original paintings and prints at the Oughterard Courthouse from this Friday, July 26, to Sunday, August 4.

The exhibition, titled Moving On, will be the final event of the Oughterard Courthouse Arts Programme’s (OCAP ) summer season, and will be formally opened by Councillor Thomas Welby this Friday, at 7pm.

Based in Connemara, Ward is a distinguished wildlife artist who has built up a body of work which can be found in many places, from natural history books to commissions in private collections and galleries. He has held solo exhibitions throughout Europe, and was invited to exhibit at the prestigious Explorers Club in New York to raise funds for endangered rainforest raptors.

As well as painting in India and showing his work in Namibia, Ward painted a portrait of the Sultan of Oman, Sultan Qaboos, which was then reproduced as the national stamp for the year of the environment. Ward’s paintings and his interest in wildlife have inspired the making of several TV films.

The Courthouse Gallery in Oughterard is open 10am-5pm Mondays to Saturdays, and from 12pm on Sundays.
