Big Top to go boom: Leftfield

Famous for their earth-shattering volume, Leftfield will headline the Galway International Arts Festival's Heineken Big Top this Friday, July 19, where punters can expect sonic boom for their bucks.

Banned from London's Brixton Academy for shaking the plaster off its ceiling, a giant tent - open-air in Galway city - should allow Leftfield latitude for serious noise.

Formed in 1988, Leftfield was originally comprised Neil Barnes and Paul Daley. Leftfield’s legendary live-performances and seminal albums, 1995’s Leftism and 1999’s Rhythm & Stealth (both Mercury Music Prize nominees ), solidified their position as true pioneers.

The group then went on a hiatus in 2002 before returning in 2010 for live-appearances (now led solely by Barnes ) culminating in a European tour finale at the Electric Picnic. 2015’s Alternative Light Source was the first Leftfield album in 16 years, winning acclaim across the British media.

In 2017, the band reissued its classic album Leftism, remastering the original 11 tracks of the record and releasing 11 remixes. They then embarked on a special sold out-tour in support of the reissue.

In 2022, Leftfield released This Is What We Do.
