Council need to move on former Aughrim Health Centre, health forum is told

Galway County Council need to make their intentions clear regarding the acquistion of the former health centre at Aughrim if it is top be retained for community use, the regional health forum was told.

Cllr Alan Harney had asked the forum if the transfer of the property for community use could be moved along, but he was told by Joe Hoare, Assistant National Director, HSE Capital & Estates that the property may be placed on the open market unless the County Council make their intentions clear.

“The former Health Centre in Aughrim, Co Galway has been approved for disposal on the open market in accordance with HSE Property Protocols,” he said.

"Initially, interest from State bodies was explored as required by protocol and Galway County Council had expressed an interest to acquire.

“However, the local authority subsequently withdrew their interest. The HSE remain open to an acquisition of the property by the local authority for community or other use.

“However time is of the essence,” Mr Hoare added.

“ The intention would be to place the property on the market for sale by Private Treaty and invite commercial offers for the property from any interested parties,” he said.
