Minister for Disabilities and Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, Anne Rabbitte, has welcomed the allocation of €3,000 funding for ‘National Play Day’ this weekend in Loughrea.
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth is providing the funding to Galway County Council, which will see an inclusive ‘Play Day’ event in the town on Sunday July 21 from 12 pm to 2pm. There will be fun games and activities (drumming, games, a sensory area, facepainting etc. ) at the Fairgreen, all hosted by Galway Sports Partnership.
The aim of National Play Day is to promote play opportunities for children and young people across the country, with this year’s theme being ‘Time to Play.’ This theme recognises the importance of both making and taking playful opportunities in your day.
Minister Rabbitte said, “I am delighted to see €3,000 provided for the ‘Play Day’ event in Loughrea. Hosted by Galway Sports Partnership, it will undoubtedly be a full-filled afternoon and hopefully there will be a great turnout on Sunday.
“These events are always such fun for children and parents alike as there are lots of activities for the kids to immerse themselves in. With the sun hopefully shining, there will be a wonderful atmosphere, which will remind everyone of the importance of having fun, particularly for the little ones.
“National Play Day is more than just a day of fun, it’s a celebration of the fundamental role that Play has in all of our lives. Through play, children learn to navigate the world and develop their social skills.
“Play is essential for their physical, emotional and cognitive growth. By dedicating a day to play, we are recognising its importance, and encouraging communities to come together and make time for play,” concluded Minister Rabbitte.
