Irish Quaker Faith in Action to hold street collection on Saturday

Irish Quaker Faith in Action and Islamic Relief-Ireland have teamed up for a series of street collections this summer in support of the people of Gaza and the first of these is in Galway this Saturday.

Both organisations have been supporting several projects since the horrific began that has claimed nearly 40,000 lives, mostly women, children and non-combatants. Recently, however, IQFA and Islamic Relief Ireland started working together on a project in the Nuseirat Camp in central Gaza with the Nour Al Marifa Association.

Water has been found in the Nuseirat region as a result of the bombing by the Israeli Defence Forces. Abdaljalil Abu Ghorab, the director of the Nour al Marifa Association, is looking for funds to finance a desalination plant to produce potable water that will serve central Gaza.

To date, one third of the funds required for the project have been raised. It is hoped that the remaining resources will be raised soon, as fresh drinkable water is very precious in Gaza.

If anyone would like to help out please contact Richard Kimball on 087 23 75 789, or email [email protected]

These are the collection dates: Galway, July 20th on Shop Street; Dublin, Grafton Street, 27 July; Cork, 3rd August; and Limerick, to be announced.
