Food to be available on train by next year, says Farrell

BY Declan Varley

Rail passengers to and from Galway are set for a treat by the turn of the year as they may be able to get food on the train after an absence of services for many years.

Irish Rail has confirmed to Sinn Féin TD for Galway West/South Mayo Mairéad Farrell that a full tender process is currently being progressed to reinstate catering services across the Intercity rail network and it is expected to be concluded later on this year.

They added that vending machine trials are also set to be undertaken. Irish Rail have provided this information in response to a Parliamentary Question submitted by Deputy Farrell.

Deputy Farrell has said that it is welcome that catering services will return.

“Irish Rail have confirmed to me that they expect catering service to return for passengers on Galway trains by the end of the year.

“This is very welcome after a long period of not having the service. We need to see catering services return as soon as possible,” she said.
