Community garden looking for support

As recessionary times set in, the attraction of growing vegetables and gardening is becoming something of a fixation. One innovative Galway woman has made it her mission to create a city centre community garden.

Inspired by Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall, Sorcha Fitzpatrick wants to create a garden that can help the throngs of people made redundant through the current tough financial climate.

She feels that a garden created for and with unemployed people will help create skills, generate a social hub, and bring people together by being open to the whole community of Galway city.

Fitzpatrick is calling on volunteers and anyone intereted in getting involved with the project to contact her. She is also calling on the council, or anyone with an unused green space in the city to make it available. The help of gardeners and businesses are also being sought to donate tools, seeds, plants, and advice.

If you can help Sorcha phone 086 1538691 or email [email protected]
