Glenina Vets expansion ushers in new era for pet care in Galway

A cornerstone of veterinary care in Galway for nearly 40 years, Glenina Vets has future proofed its service for future generations of pet owners, by introducing new innovative equipment, renovating the current practice space and adding highly specialised veterinary staff to its team.

Located on Dublin Rd, Glenina Vets is a proudly independent veterinary clinic which has been serving the people of Galway, and their pets, for the last 37 years.

Founded by Michael Brennan and Joe O'Donnell in 1987, Glenina Vets is the longest established practice in the city. As a mixed practice, Glenina Vets offers services and support for both small animals (dogs and cats etc. ) and large animals (horses, cows etc. ), and is the only large animal practice in the city.

Driven by its aim to 'provide quality veterinary services and support at affordable, competitive prices', Glenina Vets has long since established its reputation for operating in the best interests of the animals it cares for, as well as providing a compassionate, personable approach to pet owners. At Glenina Vets, pets are recognised as more than animals, but as family members and cherished companions.

New practice partner

Having undergone multiple changes, renovations and upgrades in recent months, Glenina Vets has expanded in all areas, boasting a new partner, new specialist staff and an upgraded surgical suite.

Ballinrobe man, Eugene O'Malley (MVB ) has been announced as the new partner of Glenina Vets, bringing years of experience in mixed practice to the role, as well as a strong interest in 'large animal medicine' and Mayo football.

Specialist vets

Joining the specialist veterinary team at Glenina Vets is Dr A L Ormsby, Dr Rosie Ellis and Dr Eoin Ó Móráin, each of whom will bring mountains of knowledge and experience to the practice.

Dr A L Ormsby (BVMS, MRCVS, CertCSM, GpAdvCertSAOS, PgC ) has joined the specialist team in Glenina Vets, following her return to Galway after years working and living abroad. Dr Ormsby provides extensive specialist surgery and consultancy service for Glenina Vet's clients, including advanced soft tissue, orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

Also joining the specialist veterinary team is Dr Rosie Ellis (DVM GPCertDI MSc BA. ) who is currently completing a post graduate qualification and will be accepting cardiac referrals at Glenina Vets in the near future.

Providing specialist dentistry services to the practice, Dr Eoin Ó Móráin (MVB, BDentSc, MFD, RCSI, MSc(Endo ), KCL ) is on hand to perform canine root canals, restorative dentistry and full mouth extractions.

The addition of these highly qualified vets sees brings the team of specialist staff up to 10, joining the practice's existing specialist team which includes Joe O'Donnell, Phillip McManus, Ronád Stanley, Noelle McGrady, Emer McManus, Karl D'arcy and Aisling Hughes.

Upgraded services

In keeping with its mission to deliver high quality care, Glenina Vets is a strong believer in embracing industry innovation and meeting the growing needs of its patients. Evidence of this is the practice's recent expansion and upgrade of its surgical suite as well as the services and features it provides.

In addition to the extensive range of equipment in the practice, including digital radiography, dental radiography and ultrasonography, the recent practice upgrade has seen the acquisition of new laboratory equipment like extensive computerised urinalysis. Glenina Vets also hosts the only animal ambulance service in Galway city, providing 24/7 round the clock emergency care for its clients, as well as having the longest opening hours for a practice in Galway city.
