Lumiere's music is deeply influenced by the rich singing traditions of West Kerry. Éilís Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon have been immersed in this cultural heritage since childhood, and their live performances reflect a deep-seated appreciation for the beauty and emotional depth of their songs’ heritage.
Known for her soulful and unadorned voice, Kennedy is a prominent figure in Irish music. Her interpretations of songs in both Irish and English are characterised by their authenticity and emotional resonance. Her songs span the traditional repertoires of Ireland, Scotland, and England, infusing them with beautiful instrumental arrangements of guitar, fiddle, cello, and harp.
The other half of Lumiere, Pauline Scanlon, brings a distinctive voice that is both ancient and fresh, delicate and powerful. As an award-winning singer with extensive touring experience, Scanlon's voice is uniquely Irish yet universally understood.
Her activism, particularly as a founding member of FairPlé, underscores her commitment to elevating the role of women in the arts. Both Kennedy and Scanlon create a sound that is intimate, emotive, and deeply rooted in their cultural landscape.
Lumiere's songbook reflects themes of love, loss, place, and people and their music was produced by the legendary John Reynolds, who has worked with notable artists like the late Sinead O’Connor and U2.
