Half way through the year and law enforcement raids across Galway have discovered more than €1.3m worth of cannabis.
Revenue officers seized several kilos of herbal cannabis in Galway last week, marking the third major weed bust in the county this year.
Officers seized the 7.1kg of herbal cannabis worth an estimated €144,000 as part of an intelligence-led operation.
Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB ) and the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit were involved in the joint operation.
In April, a large grow house was discovered in the heart of Galway city centre where almost €900,000 of herbal cannabis was seized by gardaí. A month earlier, two separate grow houses were raided near Glenamaddy and Loughrea where a total of more than €300,000 worth of marijuana plants and harvested herb was discovered.
Separately, last month Revenue officers based in Shannon Airport intercepted more than 7kg of herbal cannabis and other marijuana products destined to addresses in Galway, valued at over €220,000.
A Revenue spokesman confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
