Songwriter Oisín Leech, one half of folk duo The Lost Brothers, will perform at Monroe’s Live on Saturday, July 20, at 7.30pm, as part of the Galway International Arts Festival.
Special guests on the night are duo Laura Quirke and Claire Kinsella, known as Lemoncello.
Having released his debut album Cold Sea to critical acclaim, this intimate yet otherworldly collection of songs has been named by the Irish Times as one of the top ten Irish albums of 2024.
His compositions reflect the Donegal landscape and, inspired by the ocean, he has created an immersive experience for listeners that tell a complete story with a strong sense of place.
Recorded beside Trawbreaga Bay in Co. Donegal, Leech created the album in an old schoolhouse using borrowed recording gear. This environment shaped the album's sound, capturing the essence of the land and contributing to the depth and beauty of his lyrics.
A balance of melancholy and allure, with a sombre and comforting tone, Cold Sea includes contributions from M. Ward, Dónal Lunny, Róisín McGrory, and Tony Garnier, a long-time member of Bob Dylan’s touring band.
Folk pioneer Dónal Lunny described Leech’s music as mesmeric, with “songs that make you feel good about life and that’s what music should do!”
His atmospheric folk pop takes his audience on a melodic journey, as Cold Sea embraces themes of exile, love, loss and healing from his ancestral Donegal home. Firmly embedded in Irish and folk roots, they embrace off-kilter indie pop, jazz, romantic and contemporary classical.
