The latest offering from the Cine4's collaboration with Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann and TG4, Fidil Ghorm is a new Irish language film for the Galway Film Fleadh that will transport audiences to a world of music, magic, and the resilience of the human spirit.

When 10-year-old Molly meets an old fiddle player with ‘magic in his hands’ she is convinced that with his help she can wake her father from a coma, but magic comes in many forms. As she embarks on a quest to bring him back to her, Molly crosses paths with a cranky old man named Malachy, convinced that he possesses magical abilities. Malachy softens with Molly’s pleading and they share an unlikely friendship.

Edith Lawlor shines as the spirited Molly. Edith won the All-Ireland Under-12 Fiddle competition in the Mullingar Fleadh last year and has been playing the fiddle since she was four. This her first film role.

Director Anne McCabe brings Fidil Ghorm to life with a blend of heartfelt performances and breathtaking scenery. Galway writer Patricia Forde wrote the script. She has written many books for children and young adults in Irish and English, and is the current Laureate na nÓg. Budgeted at €1.5 million, Blue Fiddle is being produced by Bríd Seoighe and Pierce Boyce for Inverin-based outfit Abú Media Films.

Fidil Ghorm showcases the collaborative efforts of a passionate team of filmmakers working in Irish. Odhrán Ó Casaide composed all the original music while his daughter, Sibéal, sings the theme song.

"Music and storytelling have an extraordinary power to heal and inspire,” says Anne McCabe. “Fidil Ghorm is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative nature of music."

Audiences of all ages are invited to join Molly as she dares to dream the impossible and discovers that hope can blossom in the most unexpected places. Fidil Ghorm will have its first showing at the Galway Film Fleadh on Wednesday, July 10, in the Town Hall theatre.
