The youth association's ninth annual charity walk, held Sunday, June 2, has successfully raised over €11,000 in support of the Irish Red Cross and their appeal for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The 5K walk was held along Palmer’s Beach, providing a scenic view of the Atlantic Ocean for the participants.
The walk brought together families, friends, and members of the local community, all united by the same motive of showing their support for a much needed cause.
The charity walk was inaugurated by Councillor Alan Cheevers, as he expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the work that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association carries out to provide unconditional humanitarian support to those in need. Councillor Niall McNelis also showed his support on the day with his participation. In addition to the walk, the event featured food stalls prepared by the women’s wing of the community to fundraise for the same cause.
The Irish Red Cross relies on donations to fund essential services, delivered to disaster-stricken areas across the world. Imam of Galway Mosque, Ibrahim Noonan, further praised the disaster relief efforts of the Irish Red Cross, as he recalled witnessing the aid delivered first hand in certain areas.
Fundraising efforts will continue into July, when some members of the youth association will be undertaking a huge 550km cycle from Dublin to London to support the same cause.
The success of this year’s charity walk underscores the ongoing commitment and dedication of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association towards upholding to their core value of serving humanity. The organisers are already looking forward to next year's event, aiming to raise more funds and continue this tradition of community support.
