1 Cn Cois are hosting an open day in the Renmore Barracks on Saturday, June 22. The Barracks will be opened to the public from 1pm to 4pm, and there will be a full schedule of events for people of all ages. The day will consist of various interactive displays exhibiting their capabilities and offering the public an opportunity to gain an insight to Galway’s Infantry Battalion.

There will be various opportunities to ask questions about all weapons and equipment – from pistol to sniper rifle to heavy machine guns. Interactive games and an obstacle course are among the activities that will be available for children. Throughout the day, there will be demonstration displays of military tactics and also a parachute display from Defence Forces personnel.

The in-house museum, access to which is usually exclusively for members of the DF and guests of the unit, will be open to the public and will showcase the history of the unit both at home and overseas. To complement this, the Connaught Rangers association will be present with a display showcasing the history of the barracks and the unit that occupied it before.

Throughout the day there will be demonstration displays of military tactics, parachuting and military music.

For any members of the public who may have an interest in a life in the Defence Forces, there will be a recruitment stand on site which will be able to provide information on the various career paths the Defence Forces has to offer.

Popular Galway food vendors such as Dough Bros, Handsome Burger, Barista bus, and Americano Ice-cream will be present on day.

A limited amount of parking is available in the Áras an Tsáile car park, in front of the department of defence building, which is a brief two-minute walk from the barracks.
