Fahy Travel reassure customers following German tour operator collapse

Following the collapse of FIT Travel in Germany last week, Maura Fahy, managing director of Fahy Travel, has informed and reassured Galway holiday makers ahead of the summer tourism season.

The insolvency of German company FIT Travel, which also owned companies You Travel and Meeting Point, as well as Labranda and Karina Hotel chains, made international headlines last week.

"We sell quite a bit of the Labranda group, particularly in Lanzarote," said Maura Fahy, Managing director of Fahy Travel, adding, "And we have already rebooked any customers affected by this collapse. We have had quite a few calls from concerned customers in relation to their connection with Sun Express and there has been some confusion in relation to Ryanair also being involved.

"We would like to reassure all customers that we have made all necessary arrangements to rearrange accommodation where necessary, and to confirm that no airline flying from Ireland has been affected by this collapse. It is a sad reminder that no matter how big a travel company is or what online presence they portray, when things go wrong in the travel industry, they go very badly wrong."

Watch out for fraudulent offers

"There has also been quite an increase in fraudulent activity online in relation to great deals on foreign holidays, but we would like to stress that if an offer is too good to be true, then tread carefully.

"Travel agents work in a highly regulated industry. All Irish Travel Agents Association (ITAA ) agents adhere to a strict code of conduct when handling customer's travel arrangements.

"We would strongly recommend that wherever you book your holiday, that you ensure that the travel company is bonded and licensed in Ireland. The ITAA's website has a list of all registered members."

Availability

There is good news for those who have not yet booked their holidays for this summer, as Maura confirms that there is still quite a bit of availability for July and August 2024.

"Both Ryanair and Aer Lingus have revised their flight prices, and there is good value to be had."
