Educational pathways: explore GCC's varied course offerings

Galway Community College (GCC ) Further Education offers a diverse range of courses tailored to equip students with the skills and knowledge required for successful careers in various fields. The extensive selection of courses across multiple disciplines is closely aligned with industry needs and the pathways they create for further education and employment.

For those looking to progress to higher education, GCC's courses often serve as stepping stones, designed to help students achieve the necessary points to gain entry into university or improve employment prospects with necessary qualifications. This pathway is beneficial for students who may not have achieved their desired results in the traditional Leaving Certificate exams or an opportunity to sample new vocational areas. There are no CAO points required to apply, and you can convert your results from the course, up to 390 points (more for science courses ) to apply for more than 1,200 CAO courses that will accept a QQI award for progression to universities in Galway and nationwide. GCC's Level 6 courses give direct access to some second-year courses in ATU. The college maintain strong links with local university access offices through information talks and sessions on progression, organised by GCC's guidance counsellor.

A significant feature of GCC's courses is the inclusion of practical work experience. Most courses incorporate work experience one day per week throughout the academic year. This hands-on approach ensures that students gain real-world experience, enhancing their employability on graduation. GCC is committed to making education accessible to all. The college offers various supports for students, including disability and learning supports and career guidance. Additionally, financial aids such as the SUSI grant and Back to Education Allowance (BTEA ) help alleviate the financial burden for eligible students, including low registration fees €175, see www.galwaycc.ie for more information.

While studying at GCC you can expect a friendly, inclusive environment in small classes. There is an opportunity to swap courses up to the end of October if requested, the college aims to ensure all students are happy in their education.

GCC offers fully funded Erasmus placements where there are plenty of work experience opportunities abroad. Situated at Moneenageisha Junction, the college has an ideal location close to the city centre, with free parking, a student café, along with modern facilities.
