Westdoc extended to include Moycullen and Oughterard GPs

The HSE have confirmed that Moycullen and Oughterard GPs are now included under cover of the Galway City Westdoc cell since May 20. This follows on from a ‘red eye’ service from 12 midnight to 8am cover operating since last August.

Senator Seán Kyne has welcomed the decision of Westdoc to extend its remit west saying he has highlighted the need for some years; “I have engaged on this matter over a number of years at the Oireachtas Health committee and in the Seanad and I welcome confirmation that Moycullen and Oughterard GPs are now operating under the Westdoc service.

“Out of hours GP service is hugely important to a community and I applaud local GPs for continuing their pressure to extend Westdoc to the area of Moycullen, Roscahill and Oughterard.

“Eircodes have aided emergency vehicles and GPs hugely in getting quicker access to patients and makes it easier to cover rural houses,” concluded Kyne.
