Flood defences in the Claddagh urgently needed

John McDonagh, Labour candidate in the forthcoming local elections, has called for the urgent Installation of flood defenses in the Claddagh along the Quay, that would be both effective and visually acceptable. McDonagh suggests consultations should held with the local community to determine how best to prepare for the inevitable flooding and what defenses would be best to protect residents and properties in the area.

Several other issues were raised by Claddagh residents during McDonagh’s canvassing of the area, such as the lack of public street bins, resulting in residents’ household bins being used by passersby, and antisocial behaviour in the local church grounds, with excessive drinking and accompanying bad behaviour a regular concern in the area.

McDonagh believes that solutions to all of the above issues can be found by proper consultation and effective representation. “It is time for strong representation of the people of Claddagh that will prioritise their issues and work with them to identify effective and feasible solutions”, says John McDonagh, and he fully intends to pursue an agenda for action and delivery if elected on June 7.
