Tusla, which is recruiting foster carers across Galway, invites anyone considering fostering to attend an information evening in the Tusla Building at Loughrea Shopping Centre on June 11 from 7 – 8.30pm .
This event will give the opportunity to chat with experienced foster carers and workers. Michele Mead, Fostering Team Leader shares some of the key messages in becoming a Foster Carer with Tusla, the Child and Family Agency.
“When you become a Tusla foster carer you will join Ireland’s largest community of foster carers. You will be supported throughout your journey. In Tusla Fostering the sole purpose is to ensure that children who are not able to live with their families are assured of a loving, safe and stable family home,” she said.
Tusla is Ireland’s longest established foster care provider, and is the only statutory provider of foster care services. This means it is a state agency, and not for profit.
“As a Tusla foster carer you will have direct access to the social work teams who work with children coming into foster carer because we all work for the same agency,” sMs mead added.
“Tusla welcomes carers from all backgrounds, cultures, and communities. We are committed to having a diverse group of foster carers to reflect the needs of foster children. Tusla have a spectrum of supports for foster carers from payments, to support groups, training to specialist services.
“We employ a range of staff including psychologists, social care workers, social workers, educational support staff and more all of whom can e involved in supporting you, your family, and your foster child. You can work or be at home, own your house or rent, you can be married, cohabiting or single, you do not need to have child raising experience.
“You can work and foster in certain circumstances where it meets a foster child’s needs,” she concluded.
