Senator Aisling Dolan welcomes the announcement by Iarnród Éireann of seven new services on the Galway to Dublin Heuston train line.
Senator Dolan said this is fantastic news for so many people who have now more choice instead of having to take a car and deal with traffic, commuting every morning and evening for work and college.
“There is a new early morning service at 05:45 Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Fri ) arriving in Galway before 9am. Also an early morning train service from Tullamore station that will serve all stations including Athlone and Ballinasloe that will get people in before 9:00 AM.
“I’m really delighted myself to see a new late 20.30 from Heuston. I know this will be of real interest for people who working in Dublin or visiting Dublin City and again this will be serving all stations including Ballinasloe and Athlone.”
“These new services from Monday to Friday along with the new Saturday and Sunday options means families can leave their car behind and it takes away the stress of parking on a family day out.
Senator Dolan said she worked on the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility plan in 2021 and we did a video campaign to show the need for services in the west.
“I have worked hard to ensure Ballinalsoe was included on these stops, we still don’t have a catering service on the trains and we need to see these services restored. Great news today for commuters, students and families,” she said.
New schedule includes:
— New 07:27 hrs Tullamore/Galway service (Mon-Fri ) arriving at 08:58 hrs. This provides an additional morning peak service into Galway for all stations between Tullamore and Oranmore.
— New 20:30 hrs Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Sat ) arriving at 23:06 hrs. This will provide a later last service from Dublin to Tullamore, Clara, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Athenry, Oranmore & Galway.
— New 09:05 hrs Galway/Heuston (Mon-Fri ) serving Oranmore, Athenry, Ballinasloe, Athlone, Clara, Tullamore & Portarlington, arriving into Dublin Heuston at 11:29 hrs.
— New 20:50 hrs Galway/Heuston service (Mon-Sat ) arriving at 23:33 hrs. This will provide a later last service from Galway to Clara, Tullamore, Portarlington, Kildare, Newbridge & Heuston.
— New 10:30 hrs Heuston/Galway (Sundays ) service arriving at 13:02 hrs, also calling at Newbridge, Kildare, Portarlington, Tullamore, Clara, Athlone, Ballinasloe, Woodlawn, Athenry & Oranmore.
— New 13:40 hrs Galway/Heuston (Sundays ) service arriving at 16:14 hrs, also calling at Oranmore, Athenry, Attymon, Woodlawn, Ballinasloe, Athlone, Clara, Tullamore & Portarlington.
— New 05:45 hrs Heuston/Galway service (Mon-Fri ) arriving at 08:36 hrs. This gives a pre-09:00 arrival into Galway City.
