Rent the Runway, the world’s first and largest shared designer closet that enables women to rent a la carte, subscribe, or shop resale from hundreds of designer brands, has celebrated the fifth anniversary of its European Software and Technology Hub in Galway.

Launched in Galway in May 2019, Rent the Runway is based in the refurbished Piscatorial School in the heart of the historic Claddagh area of the city. Since its establishment in 2019, the Galway office has played a pivotal role in Rent the Runway’s mission to disrupt the trillion-dollar fashion industry through innovative technology.

Unique innovations developed at the European Software and Technology Hub have been instrumental in the development and success of key initiatives for Rent the Runway, including machine-learning algorithms for personalised recommendations, the transformation of our technical stack via cloud technologies, workflow enhancements in our warehouses, and the modernisation of our Consumer clients with an emphasis on performance and customer usability.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate five years in Galway,” Jennifer Hyman, CEO and Co-Founder of Rent the Runway told the Advertiser.

“From day one, the talent and dedication of our team in Galway has been instrumental in the overall success of Rent the Runway. As we look to the future, we look forward to continuing to foster innovation and creativity in Galway, and are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.”

The European Software and Technology Hub in Galway is Rent the Runway’s only international office outside the US and has enabled the company to expand its Software Engineering, Product Development, Machine Learning and Data Science footprint. The exceptional team in Galway tackles core technology challenges and influences the next generation of services critical to Rent the Runway’s success and continued growth.

“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone and reflect on the incredible journey we have had over the past five years,” said Ronan Conlon, Site Lead at Rent the Runway, Galway. “Our team’s passion for innovation and collaboration has been a key driving force behind our success, and we are grateful for the support of the local community and our partners. As we continue to evolve, we remain committed to making a positive impact and delivering exceptional experiences for our customers, our staff and our local community in Galway.”

Dónal Travers, Global Head of Technology & CCBS at IDA Ireland said “five years ago, IDA Ireland warmly welcomed Rent the Runway to Ireland’s West Coast. Since then, this leading and innovative company has become an important part of Galway’s vibrant and growing technology ecosystem. I’d like to wish the team continued success.”
