Merlin Park mortuary to be demolished

Additional staff car parking is expected to be provided on the site of the former Merlin Park mortuary which is due to be demolished, a meeting of the HSE West’s regional health forum was told this week.

The issue was raised on Tuesday by Cllr Declan McDonnell. He said there were plans to demolish the building two years ago but no progress had been made since. He wanted to know what the site would be used for in the future.

Joe Hoare, the assistant national director of the HSE Capital and Estates department, said that planning permission had recently been granted for the demolition of the building.

“It is intended to progress in due course and tidy up the general area most likely with the provision of additional staff car parking.”
