UHG’s car parks generated more than a million last year

University Hospital Galway’s four fee paying car parks generated an income of more than €1 million for the health service last year. This income has increased over the past few years from €630,115 in 2020 to €1,045,272 in 2023, a meeting of the HSE West’s regional health forum was told earlier this week.

The parking facilities are located at the front and back entrance of the hospital, the maternity, and the paediatric department. A car park at the side entrance of the hospital is used by staff and patients and there are free car park spaces located at various areas around the hospital. Spaces are also available for wheelchair users/disability permit holders.

A reduced parking fee for patients attending treatment at the radiation oncology building will be applied as soon as the car park in that area is fully operational later this month. A seven day multi entry ticket can be facilitated for visitors for €30 a week, also. There is currently a €4 parking discount per day for the parents of babies in the neonatal intensive care unit.

Free parking is available at various locations and at all units at Merlin Park University Hospital.

Community Healthcare West, which is based at Newcastle Road, has one public car park which facilitates service users attending Shantalla Health Centre, the Civil Registration Service, and other community care services. It has 65 car parking spaces in all. The income received from car parking at Community Healthcare West for 2023 was €32,426.40.
