Darren Kiley cites The Lumineers as a major influence

Recently announced as the support act for James Blunt in Ireland, Darren Kiely is set to bring his brand of folk-infused pop to Monroe’s Live on Tuesday, July 23, as part of this year’s Galway International Arts Festival.

In just five years, the Co Cork native has gone from playing in hometown pubs, to becoming the special guest for international stars on the Irish leg of their tours.

It’s been a whirlwind for Kiely who, from a young age, scooped many awards for his musicianship.

At just five years old, Darren learned the tin whistle, and at eight years old he picked up the fiddle, eventually teaching himself to play guitar.

Now,he is renowned for his raw and emotive lyrics, creating songs that originate from his love of traditional music, with modern influences such as The Lumineers and Noah Kahan.

His EP Lost features the hit single ‘Mom & Dad,’ which debuted in the Top 40 on the Irish singles chart and Top 5 on the Irish home grown chart.

With over 6.5 million total global streams, Kiely has carved an alternative folk niche from his adopted home of New York.
