The eight professional cellists who comprise Cello Ireland will be at the heart of a special Cellisimo Spectacular concert in Leisureland, Salthill this Saturday, May 25.

Aoife Burke, William Butt, Jane Cords O’Hara, Martin Johnson, Maria Kolby Sonstad, David McCann, Una Ní Chanainn, Maria O’Connor are scheduled to play works by big names including Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky. This first part of the evening will showcases the wide diversity of Cello Ireland’s repertoire.

For the second half of the show, the Irish ensemble will be joined by European cello superstar Nicolas Altstaedt, with fellow cellists Catherine Cotter, Martin Johnson, William Butt and soprano Claudia Boyle singing vocalise.

Festival organisers have been amazed that a call to invite local cellists across Galway has resulted in 59 enthusiasts aged seven to 70-years-old expressing interest. They will be joined by a masterclass of eight leading cello students who have travelled from all over Europe to learn from the experts this week.
