Cllr Andrew Reddington has confirmed that Minister Health Humphreys has announced €30,000 funding for Headford.
A few years ago, locals started what was called the Headford Town Team and they put a callout to the community through local papers and social media to get a group together who wanted to move Headford and the hinterlands forward.
“Then we developed the Headford Town Team, which was working along, side the Headford and District Association. The meetings were held on Zoom every Thursday evening. There was so much discussion with so much energy.
“We than applied to Reimagine Ireland for funding. We have so much going on in Headford and there are many community groups doing so much good work. The main points kept coming up which was the Town and the Main Street.
“We now have received funding of €30,000, which will help us to achieve our goals and will bring the expertise that we need to improve the area. I want to be very clear this would not have been successful without such a strong team and each one of that team should be very proud of what was achieved and special thanks to Hazel Fox and Galway County Council.
The Town Centre First approach is an initiative of government policy to build sustainable and resilient communities in rural towns.
Cllr Andrew Reddington said this is all about tackling vacancy, combatting dereliction and breathe new life into our town centres.
“Through this initiative, we are recognising the importance of having vibrant towns, which are places to live in, work in, visit, and raise a family in. Its great Headford finally made the cut and all the hard work the local community group put in has come to fruition.
