Don’t call 999, they’ll be dancing

Galway people have been urged to be very very careful on October 3, because all of the city and county's emergency services will be out dancing.

A black and white themed ball is being held in the city where staff from Galway hospitals, Garda Siochana, the fire and ambulance service, RNLI, coast guard, civil defence, Order of Malta, mountain rescue, Red Cross, and Renmore army barracks will get a chance to socialise formally - without the uniforms.

A skeleton crew will man the 999 lines for the evening which is a rare chance for all the region's 999 crew to meet up in a less stressful setting than the normal emergencies they deal with daily. All proceeds from the evening are going to Abalta, the local autism school and the Stepping Stone charity.

Organisers are delighted to announce that Shiela Fitzpatrick aka Alternative Miss Ireland 2007 will be coming up from Limerick to add to the glamour and provide a few laughs and her drag comedy will be joining a fabulous line up including the Corrib String Quartet, Galway Capoeira, cover band The Wilful, and finishing with a disco.

Galway Bay fm’s Ollie Turner will act as MC for the night and there will be a big raffle with lots of prizes including restaurant, hotel and spa vouchers. You can book tables for 10, 12, or 14, people, and all this for €75 pp! All proceeds are being divided between AbaltaSchool, and Stepping Stones CDC. Tickets are available in the Emergency Dept, The Westwood hotel, or by contacting 087 6428314.
