The picturesque town of Lanesborough in Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands will host the exciting Gaelforce River Fest from May 17 to 18. Supported by Fáilte Ireland, this vibrant festival, set against the lush midlands countryside, invites adventurers and families to enjoy a weekend of dynamic outdoor activities and cultural experiences.
The festival’s centrepiece, the Gaelforce Great River Swim on May 18, challenges both novice and experienced swimmers to a race in the beautiful waters of the River Shannon. Accompanied by comprehensive safety measures, the swim promises a thrilling yet secure environment for all participants.
Beyond the swim, the Gaelforce River Fest offers an array of attractions including a kayaking session, rejuvenating sauna experiences, and a variety of local food trucks and artisan stalls. Children and families can delight in circus displays, face painting, and live music performances, ensuring entertainment for all ages.
Fáilte Ireland said: “Fáilte Ireland is pleased to support Gaelforce Great River Swim which creates a unique and exciting reason for participants and their supporters to experience our world class outdoor activity offering. Developing participative festivals like this really helps boost the appeal of a destination and encourages the spread of tourism across the country. This is essential for driving footfall for local businesses and bringing social and economic benefits to the local community.”
Supported by Fáilte Ireland’s Festivals and Events division, this festival exemplifies a strong, innovative program that attracts both local and international visitors. This event not only celebrates adventure but also fosters community engagement and tourism in one of Ireland’s lesser known regions.
