McDonagh concerned at proposed Coolough development

John McDonagh, Labour Party local election for Galway City Central Ward, has expressed his concerns at the proposed plans for a student housing development comprised of four storey high blocks adjacent to the long standing residential community of Crestwood in the Coolough area.

His concern is not an objection to plans for additional student housing, but to the scale of the proposed high rise buildings on such a small site.

McDonagh says that the development would be completely out of character with the existing Crestwood estate in terms of scale, visual impact and obstruction and close proximity to the existing residential area

Without a doubt, he said, parking for such a significant development would also greatly impinge on the existing residential community.

John McDonagh calls on the City Council to take the concerns of the local community into account, regarding the scale and nature of the development that would obstruct a long established residential community in so many ways, and not grant planning permission to the development as currently proposed.
