Independent Councillor Terry O’Flaherty has welcomed the start of work on installing street lighting in the Coillte Mhuirlinne area of Ballybane, undertaken at her request.
Additional lighting is to be installed on the spine road leading to Coillte Mhuirlinne from Castle Park Road, with eight new LED lights along this road and an additional light on the walkway into the Ballybane library and shop area.
“The ducting has been put in place in recent days for the new public lights, which will make a great difference to people living in in these areas,” said Councillor O’Flaherty.
“The new street lights are being provided as a result of representations made to me by Donal Lynch in Sruthán Merlin.
“The entrance to both Sruthán Mhuirlinne and Coillte Mhuirlinne estates and Bothar Waithman is quite dark during the winter months and requires a better lighting system.
“I’m really pleased that I was in a position to make a case for the lights, which in my opinion will both enhance the area greatly and will make it much safer for all the people living there,” she added.
Cllr O’Flaherty has been informed by Galway City Council that while works have started on the installation of the ducting, cabling and columns, a new ESB connection would be required and it might take four to six weeks before the lights were energised by the ESB.
“I would like to thank Colm Shaughnessy , Galway City Council for the installation of the public lighting which will be welcomed by all the residents,” she said.
