Play on Richard Kirwan's life in Cregg Castle

A free performance of Flogaist, a short play by Aoife Clarke, will be performed on Friday, May 10 at 8pm in Cregg Castle near Corrandulla.

Cregg Castle

Cregg Castle

Flogaist is based on the life of Richard Kirwan, a famous scientist and descendant of one of the fourteen tribes of Galway. In 1750, Kirwan returns to Cregg Castle in Galway after a vibrant life studying across Europe and being exposed the knowledge of the world.

His understanding of his life changes when a new chemical discovery, oxygen, comes to light. That changes his belief in 'Phlogiston Theory' of how fire burns.

Music from Zoe Hayter will be performed before the play.
