Ó Conchúir calls for end to trolley waits at hospital

Galway City West Sinn Féin local election candidate Cathal Ó Conchúir is calling for an end to waiting on trolleys in the University Hospital, Galway, as a matter of urgency.

The Sinn Féin candidate says he heard of someone who was “waiting six days on a trolley before eventually being admitted to hospital. In fact it took five hours before the man was actually formally registered by the HSE staff.”

“To compound matters, the ambulance crew had to wait around for the five hours until he was formally handed over, as that is the rule, and there were four other ambulance crews doing the same, effectively depriving the public of badly needed ambulances until their patients were processed by the system.”

“The situation is intolerable and the City Council has a HSE committee which ought to demand a more efficient front end service for the public. There must be a review as the admissions system is overloaded and not working effectively,” he said.
