Conor Burke has been selected by Solidarity to run in the local elections in the east ward. Burke is a long time political activist with the Socialist party and Solidarity and will focus his campaign on dealing with the housing crisis, student accommodation, public transport, environment and biodiversity, cost of living challenges facing families and young people as well as placing an emphasis on equality and inclusion.
“I seek to take on the hypocrisy of the far right narrative that seeks to sew division and hate within our communities, the housing crisis is a direct consequence of political policies whos express aims are to benefit a small cohort of rich landlords, vulture funds and corporate interests.
“It is not a fault of immigrants or asylum applicants, the far right attempts to distract people from the real causes of these problems and so act as a mud guard for the political establishment and their free market ideology,” he said.
He added that the Socialist Party/ Solidarity stands firmly against these backward ideas.
“It is only through unity of people based on the principles of solidarity that we can actually overcome these problems not by dividing people based on race, nationality, gender, sexuality or religious beliefs. This goes for all issues not just housing, we will not overcome the challenges of climate change, the cost of living crisis or exploitatitive working conditions by falling for these divide and rule manoeuvres of the establishment and their far right lackeys” said Mr Burke.
Conor Burke joins Denman Rourke on the People before profit- Solidarity ticket in the East ward of the city. This will be Mr Burke’s third time running in the local elections, he lives in Caireal Mor, Castlegar, and hopes to represent the interests of all workers and young people by being a voice for workers unity, integration, community development and solidarity.
“It is only by communities coming together and fighting as one that we can achieve the aims that we all desire, affordable housing, improved public transport, environmental sustainability, accessible healthcare, mental health services and wages that keep up with the cost of living,” Mr Burke concluded.
