With the local elections on June 7 fast approaching, Labour Party Candidate Helen Ogbu has been actively engaging with residents in Roscam to understand their concerns and priorities. During recent canvassing efforts, several pressing issues have come to light, emphasizing the urgent need for improved infrastructure and transportation solutions in the area.

A primary concern voiced by residents is the need for additional exits in the Ros Caoin/Boireann Bheag axis to Oranmore. The current singular exit often leads to traffic congestion and poses challenges for families, particularly those with school-going children. Despite previous efforts to address these issues, traffic and transportation concerns persist, causing ongoing frustration among locals. Residents emphasized that having a second exit would significantly alleviate these challenges and enhance the overall quality of life in the neighbourhood.

Moreover, there is a need for enhanced transportation options to better serve the community and facilitate connections to Oranmore. Residents have highlighted the importance of increasing the frequency of buses and implementing a low fares structure for public transport users. Ensuring safe commuting routes for children is paramount, with residents also advocating for improved bicycle lanes and footpaths to promote active and sustainable modes of transportation.

Addressing these infrastructure and transportation challenges requires collaborative efforts between Galway City Council and County Council. Residents stress the importance of fostering a stronger relationship between the two councils to effectively plan and implement necessary improvements that benefit both Roscam and Oranmore.
