Mayor of Galway City, Cllr. Eddie Hoare said Bike Week gives the people of Galway a chance to get out on their bikes and try a number of different cycling events.

“There are over 20 events in the City during Bike Week this year. There is something for everyone during the week. I am personally looking forward to the City Centre Cycle taking place on the Wednesday where we hope to have hundreds of primary school aged children cycling around the city. I am asking the people of Galway City to get out and get cycling for Bike Week this year.”

Cllr. Liam Carroll, Cathaoirleach of Galway County Council said Galway County has lots of potential for cycling across all ages and abilities.

“There are over twenty events in the county this year and I see that Cycle Fest Athenry is kicking the week off again. This has been a magnificent event over the last two year. I encourage people to come and try some of the event happening in their area.”

Jason Craughwell Galway Sports Partnership, said that Bike Week in Galway is a pretty special time as cycling groups and campaigners get to show what is available for people when it comes to using their bikes.

“From greenway cycles to urban pedalling, bike maintenance to bike decoration. Cycling for children to a high nelly experience, there is something for everyone. This is the time of year for everyone to get their bikes out, bring them to a bike maintenance workshop and get pedalling.” .

Active Cities Officer, Declan Burke said he is really looking forward to seeing more people out on their bikes during bike week.

“It is hoped that this will lead to more people being more proactive on their bikes more of the time. In Galway we have the opportunity to cycle more with the continuing development of infrastructure in the city.”
