The Galway City Charity Mayoral Ball which took place last Friday night in the Galmont Hotel, was a massive success raising over €65k for five local charities.

Hosted by Mayor of Galway City, Cllr Eddie Hoare and his wife Pam, special guest on the night was newly elected Taoiseach Simon Harris and he gave a passionate address to the large Galway crowd of close to 600 people.

He spoke of his commitment to ensuring Galway continues to receive the funding it deserves and to ensure balanced regional development.

Mayor Hoare spoke of the great potential Galway has and his aspirations to see that potential realised. He spoke of his pride in serving as First Citizen of Galway, a city in which he was born, raised and educated.

His philosophy has always been to help create a city of excellence and ambition that supports our most vulnerable, protects our environment, educates our youth, cares for our elderly and rewards both business owners and our workers.

The five local charities selected by Mayor Hoare were The National Breast Cancer Research Institute, HopeSpace, Galway Sick Kids Foundation, Rosabel’s Rooms and The Blue Teapot Theatre Company.

Speaking about the event Mayor Hoare said the event was a tremendous success.

“I have to thank everyone involved on our organising committee. They were a special group to work with and made this event the great success it was. Stefan, Karen and all the team at the Galmont were amazing too.

“I owe a massive thanks to everyone who supported the event - those who bought tables, bought tickets, sponsors, and everyone who donated.

“We raised over €65k for my five chosen charities. All charities were well represented on the night and we were able to promote the great work they do and raise a lot of money for them too,” he said.
