With 2,500km of majestic coastline abundant with attractions, activities and experiences to suit all interests, it’s hard to know where to start your own journey of discovery along the Wild Atlantic Way.

Here are three great ideas to get you started. For a Gaeltacht getaway the western half of Co. Mayo is a real gem, boasting places like Tuar Mhic Éadaigh (Tourmakeady ), Acaill (Achill Island ), and Iorras (Erris ). These spots are like postcards come to life.

Don’t miss the brand-new Solas Visitor Centre in Eachléim, a real treat for nature lovers or the famous Blacksod Lighthouse. Or head over to Glosh Beach where you'll find Tonn Nua Surf School who offer surf lessons with a sprinkle of Gaeilge.

Island adventures

For an island adventure visit the Aran Islands— Árainn (Inishmore ), Inis Meáin (Inishmaan ), and Inis Óirr (Inisheer ).

These islands boast awe-inspiring landmarks like Dún Aonghasa (Dun Aengus ), Fort of Conchobar, and Teampull Bheanáin. Árainn is the largest of islands and Inis Óirr is the smallest, with few cars on the island it’s a horse and cart or a bicycle if you want to explore. For something more fast paced experience it with Aran Off Road Adventures where you’ll be taken off the beaten track to places on the island that only their 4x4 jeep can reach.

Delectable treasures of the sea

Maybe a foodie experience in Connemara might be more your thing. DK Connemara Oysters Farm Tour allows you to channel your inner seafood aficionado as you shuck your own oyster, relishing in the unparalleled freshness and flavour as you uncover the secrets behind these delectable treasures of the sea.

Be sure to visit Kylemore Abbey while you are there and Connemara National Park where you might catch sight of some Connemara ponies, majestic red deer and peregrine falcons. Re-fuel in the tea-room afterwards.
