Frank Fahy is a native of Menlo, on the outskirts of Galway City. He is a fluent Irish speaker. Frank has been a widower since 2021 and he has three grown-up children.
A Member of Galway City Council since 2011, he was mayor of Galway City Council 2015-2016. During his term as Mayor, he signed the application for Galway to be the European Capital of Culture 2020. He also chaired the first City Council meeting through the medium of Irish. This meeting was attended by President Michael D. Higgins to formally ratify Galway as the first bilingual city in Ireland.
As Mayor, he instigated and secured funding for the restoration of three castles owned by Galway City Council. In the region of €1.5 million has been spent on Menlo Castle, Terryland Castle, and Merlin Castle. Included in the overall project was the restoration of the iconic Browne Doorway in Eyre Square. He signed the sister city agreement with Menlo Park in California, which has historic links with Menlo Village.
As Chair of the Lough Corrib Navigation Trustees, he oversaw the erection of the new slipway and pontoon at Lisloughrey Pier at a cost in excess of half a million euro. There is now a safe way to access Lough Corrib for both pleasure and rescue boats. This will be beneficial to tourism and the local economy. In the city on the Eglinton Canal beside Wolf Tone Bridge he proposed the installation of a Hydro-Curtain the first of its type in Ireland. This will help eliminate plastic/rubbish entering the ocean.

Cllr Frank Fahy is selected by Fine Gael to contest the Local Election on June 7 in Galway City Central. Previously he led a campaign to preserve Merlin Woods, preventing a road being built through it. He secured funding for the restoration of Menlo Castle’s Gate Lodge and Monument on Monument Road. He’s also advocated for reduced charges in City Council Carparks.
