Fear of physical or verbal abuse and for their own safety were among the top reasons for not approaching somebody parked illegally in accessible parking spots, according to a survey of over 2,300 people carried out by the Disabled Drivers Association of Ireland (DDAI ) this month.

The survey kicks off the launch of the Disabled Drivers’ campaign to call on city and county councils nationwide to introduce a Text Alert scheme nationwide to combat the misuse of accessible parking bays.

Survey findings will be highlighted on Saturday, April 20 at the Disabled Drivers AGM and Strategy Launch in the Connacht Hotel, Old Dublin Road, Galway.

The guest speaker is Nikki Bradley, an adaptive adventurer and one of Ireland’s leading female motivational speakers, who is also getting behind the campaign.
