Do you wish that people understood more about living with diabetes? Currently, a team of researchers at University of Galway is establishing a panel of people living with diabetes, or caring for a person living with diabetes.
Colleagues within CÚRAM, the IdeasLab and PPI Ignite Network @ University of Galway want to learn from your lived experiences with diabetes and what is important to you. The group are calling on individuals to join a panel of people living with diabetes (type 1, type 2 and gestational ), or caring for a person living with diabetes, to work with them to increase public understanding of lived experiences.
With the input from the panel, the team will develop a series of short empathy experiences to foster a deeper understanding of the lived experience of diabetes. Funded by Science Foundation Ireland, at the heart of the project’s success is the active involvement of people with diabetes and carers in designing these empathy experiences. This will result in the development of innovative mobile ‘empathy kits’. These kits will be meaningful educational resources for the public that promote empathy and innovation and will be integrated into CÚRAM's new public exhibit, SUPERHUMAN, at Galway City Museum.
By combining the power of public and patient involvement (PPI ), empathy and design thinking, the researchers aim to not only increase understanding of diabetes but also create a lasting impact on how diabetes is addressed.
