The European Parliament through, Together EU, have teamed up with Galway virtual runner John Jennings to encourage you to vote in the European Elections in June. It is a project which encourages the public to get fit in the ‘run up’ (pun intended ) to the European Elections.
John is a fan of virtual running and participates in many different virtual running events, including the Athletics Ireland Virtual Runs. The idea came to him when he joined Together EU. John was thinking of ways to encourage people to vote and he noted that first you have to know where your voting station is, then you must figure out how to get there. He suddenly realized that voting had all the key elements of a virtual running event.
All you have to do is find out where your Voting Station is, what distance you have to run, practice it, and then on the day see what your best record is.
You can post your daily times and statistics on your social media using the hashtag #FitToVoteEU24 and see how much you improve by voting day. It isn’t limited to running, you can walk or cycle or any other type of outdoor activity that gets you to the voting station.
Here is how to participate, step by step:
· Find the distance between your location and the nearest voting station.
· Practice running, walking, cycling etc. that distance up to June 6 - June 9, depending on your region.
· Record your progress, speed, and distance and post online using the hashtag #FitToVoteEU24.
· See how well you do on voting day.
· Post your results to social media with the hashtag #FitToVoteEU24.
