Bernie Keogh art gallery — inspired by the west

When asked how and why she opened an Art Gallery in the city last month, Bernie Keogh said there were things that influenced her.

These were a connection to family and friends, a love of painting; and the impact of Covid.

"During Covid, I as well as many others felt the loss of connection. I made myself a promise that I would turn the experience into something positive. It was then the Gallery plan unfolded," she said. "The first painting I did post-Covid was The Unfolding Day."

Bernie’s art celebrates her roots in the west of Ireland. She believes the human need to belong is universal and she explores this concept in the broad range of themes that inspire her such as poetry; women’s wellbeing; children; day to day living; shared social history and our cultural past.

Her three children and their partners and grandchildren are a continuous source of support to her, adding "they are the wind in my sails.”

Bernie is a graduate of Crawford College Cork and taught art in Galway secondary schools. In the 1990s, she opened her own gallery and studio in Barna where for many years she ran a successful Art School for adults.

Last month, Bernie opened an Art Gallery in Cross St, Galway to exhibit her work. Her first solo exhibition was opened in 1989 by Dr Noel Browne.

Since then Bernie has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions. The gallery is open for three days ONLY each week — Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
