Hard luck to the U-15s boys' football team who lost their Connacht A semi final to Clarin College. An outstanding strike from Lee Lydon (Galway United ) had put Merlin ahead going into the break. It was Clarin College who would have the better of the second half though, they equalised early in the second half and showed great determination to score a late winner on the day when the game seemed destined for extra time. This Merlin team showed unbelievable skill, strength and resilience on a cold wet day and the school could not be prouder of their achievements.
Merlin College would also like to wish Clarin College the best of luck in the Connacht A Final and beyond.
Turning the Tide on Racism
Students from Merlin College, Galway Community College, and Educate Together marked the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21. All three schools came together to take part in the Turning the Tide on Racism campaign run by Galway Traveller Movement.
The Turning the Tide on Racism campaign is available to all schools and consists of an online campaign, posters, and postcards that raise awareness on the issue of racism in society. They also offer a series of workshops for all age groups to get hands on advice on how to recognise and combat racism in society.
Leaving Cert oral exams
Congratulations to all Merlin College's sixth year students who sat their Leaving Certificate oral examinations this week. Students had oral examinations in Irish, French, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, and Portuguese. The range of languages on offer is a testament to the diversity in the school community and the talents of the students at Merlin College.
